ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood High School band senior member Nick Espinosa was the recipient of the nationally acclaimed John Philip Sousa Band Award. This award is given to the most outstanding senior band student. It recognizes those young musicians displaying superior musicianship, leadership, dependability, loyalty, cooperation and other qualities of conduct which school instrumental music programs strives to impart.
The Sousa Award is the top nationwide prize in the school band field. Two other senior band students received the Instrumentalist Magazine Musicianship Award. They were Ashlie Munson and C.J. Bookout. This award recognizes outstanding musicianship and distinguished musical excellence.
Awards were given by Don Regehr, band director, at the band’s spring concert.
