HOISINGTON — A valuable service to Hoisington residents is the trolley service which is provided by volunteers. For only 25 cents, residents can ride the trolley anywhere within a mile of the city limits of Hoisington.
"We’re looking for volunteers," said Pat Conrad who is in charge of the service. "I’d like to have five solid drivers."
Drivers can work a half a day and trade-off or a full day. She has recently added a couple of volunteers, but would like to add more.
The hours of the trolley are 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drivers get a free lunch through Friendship Meals.
Drivers need to have a valid drivers license, have to be able to read street signs and have no disabilities that causes them to pass out. Conrad will teach the volunteer how to use the radio.
In the mornings, the calls are dispatched by Conrad. The volunteer can go home if they have no calls and park in the street. In the afternoon, the calls go directly to a cell phone provided the service.
The service is used by citizens of all ages, including young people who need a ride to the pool or adults who want a ride to Friendship Meals.
