ELLINWOOD —At its most recent meeting, the USD 355 Board of Education approved hiring several employees for 2014-15. They were: Sheri Holmes, director of Library and Media Services; Kyla Smith, vocal music instructor; Shatlyn Marshall, 4th grade teacher; and Russell Schadel, grade school custodian.
They accepted the resignations of Molly Cherry, Meredith Reid and Gaila Nielsen; and sports: Rob Fisher, Steve Oelke, Amanda Proffitt; and Shelly Ramsey. They also approved the supplemental staffing schedule.
Andy Wesner was approved as Drivers Education instructor. The district will lease a vehicle from Dove Chevrolet.
Superintendent Ben Jacobs reported that the school will have its summer lunch program for June and July, M-F from 11:45-12:15 p.m. each day. Students from age 1-18 can eat at no cost.
Principal Eric Sjorgren reported that they have 32 kindergarteners enrolled for next year.
The district discussed increasing the cost of each meal by 10 cents. Final action on the fee schedule will occur at the June meeting.
The district will continue with its K-12 iPad initiative for next fall. Administration will solicit bids.
Wesner was the recipient of the Eagle Excellence Award.
