The following agencies have presented requests for funding in the City’s 2013 Budget. The City Council heard the in-person presentations from representatives of some of the agencies Monday night, but no action has been taken.
The first number is the amount the group asked for in 2012 and the second what they are wanting in the 2013 city budget:

• Karol Krom, Sunflower Diversified - Taxi - $0 , $10,000
• Karen Neuforth - Barton County Arts Council - $10,000, $10,000
• K.B. Bell - Crest Theater - $19,000, $19,000
• Harry Willems - Great Bend Library - 5 mills, 5 mills
The City of Great Bend’s impound and surplus auction set for Friday evening continues to grow, City Sanitarian Gregg Vannoster told the City Council Monday night.
The auction starts at 6 p.m. Friday at the city’s impound lot in the 500 block of Morphy Street. Kenny Schremmer will handle the auctioneering duties.
Such sales are held by the city as needed.
According Vannoster, the sale bill includes large items 10 impounded vehicles (collected over the past couple years), four city-owned vehicles and a broom sweeper formerly used to clean the Great Bend Municipal Airport runways. There will also be assorted electronics, such as computers, monitors, keyboards and more.
The Police Department will sell assorted bicycles, tools and other items that were found property that was never claimed. And, Vannoster said, the city told him Tuesday it wants to get rid of an old check stamping machine.
He said the vehicles can be viewed at www.schremmerauction.com. Money raised from the sale goes to the city.
In other business, the council:
• Learned Mayor Mike Allison had made several reappointments to various city committees and one new appointment. Reappointments include: Rick Schenk and Brock McPherson to the Airport Advisory Committee; Justin Engleman to the Cemetery Board; Susan Bauer and Charles Waknitz to the Tree Board; and Bob Robinson and Ken Roberts to the Human Society Board. Leroy Keith was named to the Commission on Aging, replacing Loyce Clay how moved away from Great Bend.
• Learned the new ticket booth at the entrance to the Great Bend Expo Complex was nearly complete and should be done in a week or so. The previous shack was destroyed February by what authorities believe was a semi truck making an extra wide U-turn.
