WICHITA – A Great Bend man has pleaded guilty to producing child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Wichita reported Wednesday morning.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Shawn Marshal Christiansen, 37, is charged with one count of producing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography. The crimes are alleged to have occurred from April 27, 2009, to Jan. 8, 2010, in Great Bend.
He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Great Bend March 7 in Great Bend. He was denied bond and remains in federal custody, being held in the Harvey County jail in Newton.
Sentencing is set for Feb. 21. Christiansen faces a penalty of not less than 15 years and not more than 30 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
In his plea deal entered Tuesday afternoon in Wichita, Christiansen admitted that on Dec. 6, 2009, he recorded a live streaming video in which he positioned a boy who was four to six years old in front of a web camera. He pulled the boy’s pants and underwear down to expose the boy’s genitals.
In the course of investigating another individual located in North Dakota, agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement found evidence that the man had received the video of the boy from Christiansen. ICE agents analyzed Christiansen’s computer, where they found chat logs in which Christiansen talked about the incident with the boy.
Christiansen has been a registered sexual offender since his conviction for attempted electronic solicitation of a 14-year-old girl in Arkansas City, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation offender registry. The offense occurred in December 2009 and his conviction came in September 2010.
According to the KBI, the length of his registration, which started in December 2010, was set for 25 years.
He’s been registered as a sex offender in Great Bend since December 2010.
