Phillips chosen as KAC representative

Barton County Commissioners broke with tradition this week and chose a department head to act for them at an up coming state meeting.
Commissioner Homer Kruckenberg nominated Road and Bridge Director Dale Phillips as the voting delegate for the Kansas Associations of Counties annual conference, planned for Nov. 13.
Usually that position is held by a member of the commission, though the state regulations allow for others to be appointed, it was noted.
“I’ll break with tradition,” Kruckenberg commented. It was noted that Phillips is a KAC board member, too, and so is familiar with its policies and practices.
“The Kansas Association of Counties is a quasi-public agency, which seeks to advance the public interest by promoting effective, responsive county government in Kansas,” according to its web site.
First alternate chosen is Commissioner Jennifer Schartz and second alternate is Commissioner Kenny Schremmer.
