The Count Treasurer’s Office is receiving payments for properties included in this year’s tax sale and there are currently 66 properties, said County Treasurer Kevin Wondra. Since the properties have now been filed with the court, homeowners are required to pay the abstract and court fees of $170 to redeem the property.
This information was part of the biweekly departmental update presented by County Commission Jennifer Schartz during the commission meeting Monday morning. Other highlights included:
County Engineer Barry McManaman
• Met with Great Bend Township officials to discuss possible drainage improvements
• Issued two utility permits for pipeline crossings
• Participated in a telephone conference for Local Roads Safety Plan project with Kansas Department of Transportation officials and consultants
• Issued a utility permit for fiber optic lines in the western part of the county
• Provided tornado damage documentation and information. The Cartographer provided maps and information to citizens and public agencies to assist in assessment.
Road and Bridge Director Dale Phillips
Road and Bridge
• Due to wet weather, staff worked several drainage complaints and discovered failed culverts. These will be replaces as needed.
• Drainage work and ditch cleanouts took place on NW 10 Ave. and NW 30 Road.
• Drainage work was started south of Albert and south of Olmitz.
• Asphalt road work started south of Albert. This work will continue south to West Barton County Road.
• Asphalt mixing began. Work is dependent on weather.
• Mowing of right of way started.
Memorial Parks
• Preparations for Memorial Day continued.
Interim Noxious Weed Director Kay Thompson
• The Noxious Weed Department is spraying Township roadsides and pastures for Musk Thistles.
• The office is selling chemical for Musk Thistle and Bindweed.
Juvenile Services Director Marissa Woodmansee
• Juvenile Intake and Assessment has completed 22 intakes since May 4.
• Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation and Case Management currently are supervising 45 youth from the 20th Judicial District.
• Project Stay is the Case Management program for youth who have truancy issues and currently provides Case Management for 36 youth in the Judicial District.
• Teen Court is held every month and currently has 12 youth participating.
• Choices has nine youth who are participating in classes.
• Immediate Intervention has 21 youth currently participating in the program.
