The Cardinal Catalog
Cardinal Catalog.jpg

Many adults remember the card catalog of yesteryear. Usually housed in a beautiful wood cabinet, the catalog held a card for each book in the library.

Today’s card catalog is available online through the computer at http://catalog.ckls.org.

By entering your card number and password, you can access the card catalog for central Kansas.

You can order books from other libraries and put books on hold. As long as we have a current phone number, we’ll call as soon as the book comes in. Or, we can add your email to your account and you will be notified by email.

Call the library if you have questions.

Randy and Susan Willis have donated a book called “How Gracie ‘See’s’ Christmas,” by Hoisington native April Warrick Wilbanks. Her daughter, Gracie, has cerebral palsy and is blind and nonverbal.

The book is dedicated to Dianna Warrick, April’s mother, who was a storyteller at Hoisington Library. April’s father also grew up in Hoisington, Ken Warrick. The book is available through Amazon.

We have new books available in Hoisington. A few of them are:

“The Noel Stranger”

Richard Paul Evans

Still healing from a shocking betrayal and subsequent divorce, Maggie is trying to find her Christmas spirit when she meets Andrew, the handsome man who owns the Christmas tree lot. But just when Maggie thinks she has finally found happiness, she discovers a dark secret from Andrew’s past.

“Shamed”

Linda Castillo

An Amish grandmother is murdered on an abandoned farm, her seven year old granddaughter abducted. Chief of Police Kate Burkholder plunges headlong into a case that quickly becomes a race against the clock. She knows the longer the girl is missing, the more likely a tragic outcome. The family of the missing girl is well thought of--a pillar of the Amish community. Their pain is palpable and they cooperate in every way, but Kate soon learns they’re keeping secrets... The investigation takes Kate to an isolated Old Order Amish settlement along the river in southern Ohio.

At first, the community seems upstanding and helpful. But when Kate starts asking questions, they stonewall her--and the situation soon becomes dangerous

“Blue Moon”

Lee Child

In the next highly anticipated installment of Lee Child’s suspense series, Jack Reacher comes to the aid of an elderly couple...and confronts his most dangerous opponents yet. This isn’t one of those times. Reacher is on a Greyhound bus, minding his own business, with no particular place to go. Then he steps off the bus to help an old man who is obviously just a victim waiting to happen.

Now Reacher wants to make it right. One brazen move leads to another, and suddenly Reacher finds himself a wanted man in the middle of a brutal turf war between rival Ukrainian and Albanian gangs.

He teams up with a fed-up waitress who knows a little more than she’s letting on, and sets out to take down the powerful and make the greedy pay. The odds are against him. But Reacher believes in a certain kind of justice...the kind that comes along once in a blue moon.”--provided by publisher

“A Cruel Deception”

Charles Todd

The Armistice of November 1918 ended the fighting, but the Great War will not be over until a Peace Treaty is drawn up and signed.

Representatives from the Allies are gathering in Paris, and already ominous signs of disagreement have appeared.

Sister Bess Crawford, who has been working with the severely wounded in England in the war’s wake, is asked to carry out a personal mission in Paris. When she does locate Lawrence Minton, she finds a bitter and disturbed officer who is well on his way toward an addiction to opiates. When she confronts him with the dangers of using laudanum, he tells her that he doesn’t care if he lives or dies, as long as he can find oblivion.

What is it that haunts him? He can’t confide in Bess--because the truth is so deeply buried in his mind that he can only relive it in nightmares. To prevent a tragedy, she must get at the truth as quickly as possible.
