LARNED — Larned High’s three-time state qualifier Delainee Gordon returns for an encore performance after signing a letter of intent to run track and cross country at Fort Hays State University. She placed 13th in the 1,600-meters (5:40.75) in Class 4A.
“Delainee is a three-time state qualifier who will continue to be competitive this year,” said Larned head coach Kayla Josefiak. “Brooke Butler is a freshman but will be contributing in a big way in distance relays. Thomas Harmon and Danyon Green (5th, CKL 3,200) both run distance at a high level. They’ll be competitive at the varsity level.”
Josefiak said a young team has potential for improvement.
“I’m looking forward to the season,” she said. “We’ve got a very young team and that makes the forecast look favorable for future squads.”
In the throws, Kaitlyn Finger (4th, CKL discus) and Kaitton Glover (6th, CKL discus) return for their senior seasons and show great promise. Lukus Anderson and a whole passel of boys are making great progress as well. Wyatt Davis placed second in the Central Kansas League javelin.
In the jumps and sprints, Josefiak believes the Indians figure to be competitive.
“We feature a very young team, but some of the notable sprinters will be Kolby Keith, Nate Williams and Wesley Davis,” Josefiak said. “Aarika Bright returns for her senior year triple jumping. There is a large group of very athletic capable kids in the sprints and jumps this year.”
