High school students recognized for achievements

LARNED — Larned High students Jennifer Applequist, Kwinter Hartshorn and Brittany Butler were recognized for their musical work and Erin Padilla and Caulan Brooks earned recognition for competing in the Class 4A state debate tournament.   
Jennifer Applequist, a sophomore, has been chosen to play in the 4A Kansas Honor Band in February on the flute. Kwinter Hartshorn, a junior, has been selected as an alternate on the tuba. Katie Sperry is the Larned High School band director.
The LHS debate team of Erin Padilla and Caulan Brooks, both seniors, competed in the Class 4A state debate tournament in Fort Scott recently.  While they did not make it to the octafinals, they did have a record of 4-2 and placed 20th out of 60 teams.  Chris Scheideman is the debate coach at Larned High School.
Brittany Butler, a junior, received a 1 rating on her piano solo at the Wichita Piano Festival, which is a pre-state festival.  She played Chopin’s, “Prelude in D-Flat Major op.28, No. 15, also known as “The Raindrop.”  Her piano instructor is  Elizabeth Spare.
