LARNED — LA Psycle is spinning its way to success.
If one of your New Year’s Resolutions was to get in shape, Larned’s newest business — LA Psycle — will help achieve that goal.
LA Psycle is an indoor cycling spin studio that opened its doors in October. Spin bikes feature weighted wheels with adjustable heights.
Certified spin instructors Jamie Froetschner and Kristin Schartz lead spin classes six days a week at 516 E. 14th St. A dozen classes lasting 30 or 45 minutes are scheduled Monday through Thursday.  Drop-in times are scheduled Friday and Saturday.
Using different genres of music, spin instructors create an exciting and energizing workout atmosphere. During a class, riders can expect a warm-up, sprints, climbs, up tempo cadences and cool-downs.
The degree of difficulty is completely up to the rider. Every rider controls his or her own bike resistance, to make peddling as easy or as difficult as the rider would like. Therefore, all ages can spin. LA Psycle has had riders from age 12 to the mid-60s.
Several avid road cyclists attend the classes.
“It’s good cardio exercise that really works your legs,” Froetschner said.
Larned High graduates Chris and Jamie Froetschner lived in Colorado for several years and enjoyed an active lifestyle of skiing, mountain biking, hiking and other outdoor activities.
After moving back to Larned four years ago, they were looking for more outlets to become as active as they were in Colorado.
Jamie dreamed of opening a spin studio in Larned, but it wasn’t until she crossed paths with Amanda Meiklejohn, the owner of Spin City in Pratt, did her dream develop into a reality.
After getting Schwinn certified in September and opening in October, Jamie and Chris quickly realized that the demand for spin in the Larned community was high enough to bring on another instructor, so Jamie recruited her cousin Kristin Schartz to help out.
Schartz, a Larned High graduate, was certified in December and has proven to be a perfect addition to the LA Psycle family.
“I have nothing but overwhelmed by the response,” Froetschner said. “There’s not a lot of outlets for fitness. It’s one of those outlets where a lot of ranges of ages come to work out. They fall in love with it.”
With no expectations opening this business in October, I can now say how blown away and grateful I am,” Froetschner said. “Maybe it will slow down in the summer months. LA Psycle has created a spin family. We care about each other, are there to share each other’s struggles and accomplishments, and lots of laughs. They work out with their friends. You come to work out and always leave feeling better. That’s the draw.”
Froetschner said she appreciates the local support.
“I have to thank my family and friends for making this dream a reality and to the community for their amazing support of our new, local business.”
