LARNED — Hi, I’m Scarlett Olsen and I grew up in Larned and Burdett.
I am a senior at Fort Hays State University studying communications, public relations and working towards a certificate in leadership. I chose to major in communications because I have always been interested in working with people, making positive impacts and doing creative work.
This summer I am interning through Ogallala Commons at the Larned Chamber of Commerce. I look forward to working with my supervisors, Sydney Blanton and William Nusser, and gaining experience working with others on real community projects.
I have a variety of interests and I am hoping to find ways of incorporating some of them into my internship.
Traveling is something that I have fallen in love with. Being immersed in a foreign culture is an adventure that teaches you more than a text book ever can.
Along with traveling, I love the outdoors, reading, music (especially live!), trying new things, exercising creativity, and meeting new people.
One project of mine this summer will be to create a promotional video for Larned’s Santa Fe Trail Days celebration.
I also plan to implement a Shop Local program as well as a Youth Entrepreneurship program.
I am not afraid to get my hands dirty and I hope to make a positive impact on this community with the time I have.
This summer I hope to gain skills and knowledge that will help me with future endeavors.
I am not sure where my degree will take me but I have high hopes to love my job, be successful, and find another area I love as much as this one. An ideal job for me would be event planning because I love planning and organizing, attending fun events, and the adrenaline of show time!
I am lucky to have this opportunity at the Chamber of Commerce this summer and I cannot wait to get started.
