HOISINGTON — Near-perfect pitching was followed by a hard-fought victory for the Larned baseball Indians.
Larned beat rival Hoisington High 12-0 behind Evan Skelton’s shutout and followed with an 8-4 victory for a sweep.
The Indians (5-1) maintain a first-place lead in the Central Kansas League on Lyons (2-0) heading to Friday’s twin bill at Lyons. Hoisington (4-6) plays at Nickerson Friday.
Winning pitcher Skelton dominated in game one with four strikeouts while permitting four base hits.
Larned roughed up a trio of Cardinal pitchers, Brad Reif, Justin Umphrey and Kyle Lang, for 12 runs on seven hits with nine walks drawn.
Isiah Perez led the offense with two hits and three runs batted in. Landon Erway, Gage Skelton and Tyler Stelter each drove in two runs. Erway and Mason Schartz each scored twice.
The Indians broke the first game open with a seven-run sixth inning. Perez drilled a two-run double and Erway and Johnathon Herter had RBIs.
