LARNED — The OPI Print and Copy Center golf team from Great Bend reigned supreme in the Fort Larned Foundation for Education golf tournament.
The OPI golf foursome captured first place with an 11-under-par score of 59 on the par 70 Larned Country Club course. The team of Randy Beren, Craig Vink, Brian McMelon and Steve Black carded nine birdies and eagled the par 5 No. 6 hole in the four-player scramble format.
The runner-up team of Jeff Reece, Michael Reece, Willie Conrad and Tague Conrad shot 10-under-par 60 for second place.
In the second flight, the winning team of Lynn Miller, Justin Woods, Justin Hammond and Roy Pleasant shot 4-under-par 66. The second flight runner-up was the team of Sid Smith, Becky Carter, Mae Clark and Loy Clark with a 66.
Clubs were awarded to winners of the hole prizes. Matt Heyn won the award for longest drive. Jim Haynes had the longest putt at 16 feet, 5 inches. Craig Vink was closest to the pin at 7 feet, 10 inches.
The fundraiser for the Fort Larned Foundation’s general fund raised more than $1,900. Funds will be earmarked for technology, teacher mini-grants and projects.
“We appreciate Pawnee Valley Sport and Spine Physical Therapy for sponsoring the green fees for the tournament and Midwest Bus for providing lunch for all the golfers,” said Jennifer Anderson, Fort Larned USD 495 assistant superintent.
