LARNED — On June 2, members of the guild finalized plans for the Quilting Celebration scheduled for Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall (use NW back door) at the First Presbyterian Church, 8th and Morris.
Members are asked to bring a large dish to share for the potluck, snacks for coffee breaks, the turkey block and quilts for display, and items for the Peddler’s Corner. Many door prizes will be given and the free event is open to the general public. Ann Hicks announced the dedication of the community quilt at Jordaan Library for the 100th anniversary on June 12 at 9:30 a.m.
Anyone wishing to participate in the library’s quilted pumpkin table runner should contact Hicks at 285-1056 or the library. Additional announcements included during the month of June, Barton County Historical Museum will display quilts from their collection.
The final call for receiving blankets for Dr. Okey for his trip to Africa will bring the total to the goal of 100. Thank you to Melvina Prescott for making 15 blankets in the last month. Anyone interested in bringing the quilting scrapbook up to date, contact Ann Hicks. Hicks distributed the first assignment for “A Cat Fright Sight” quilt challenge block.
Show and Tell participants were: Rita Schaller, Turkey wall hanging; Alice Clapsaddle, July quilt block; Karen Hadley, June and July quilt blocks and a T-shirt quilt top; Ann Hicks, two prayer quilts and one prayer quilt top with two more being made; Diann Morell, 16” July quilt block; Opal Macy, Turkey block, Sue Southam, Disappearing Nine Patch quilt in bright fall colors on cream background; Colleen Wolf, July block, Turkey wall hanging, and 4-corner apron using coffee-type fabric.
The next regular meeting will be on June 16 at 7 p.m. with Carol Crockett demonstrating “English Paper Piecing.”
For those planning in advance, the fat quarter drawing will restart in July and there will be only one regular meeting in August.
