Santa Fe Trail Days features variety

LARNED — The 2014 Santa Fe Trail Days kicks off Friday with a noon luncheon sponsored by the High Plains Farm Credit and the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce.
Admission is free with the purchase of a $5 Santa Fe Trail Days button. Buttons are available at the Chamber of Commerce and various businesses.
The Larned Area Chamber of Commerce received permission to block off off Broadway from 4th Street to 8th Street  for vehicular traffic to create a safe environment. Vendors will be placed from 5th to 6th and rides will be placed from 6th to 7th.
“It’s been a challenge competing with June Jaunt in central Kansas this weekend,” said Lauren Long, Larned chamber director. “Another event takes prople away.”
Some businesses offer special incentives for button-holders. Other businesses located off Broadway will promote their businesses.
Sales vendors, food vendors, car show, parade, jumpers provided by the Larned Assembly of God, a petting zoo, face painting and balloon art will also be featured. More than 30 vendors will be featured along with a car show and tractor exhibit.

DOWNTOWN
VENDORS
Arts, crafts and food booth vendors will be featured during the Santa Fe Trail Days Celebration throughout the weekend.  Booths will be located in a court area on blocked off streets or in front of downtown businesses. Businesses will tents or canopies will receive priority placement. Exhibitors must provide their own tables and chairs.

SANTA FE PARADE
Check-in for the parade is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at 4th and Main,
The parade lineup crew will wear orange vests to check-in and find out where to place your parade entry for line-up.

FRIDAY’S EVENTS
Craft vendors and concessions run from 2-8 p.m. The Chamber Happy Hour is scheduled from 5-6 p.m. at Broadway and 7th. Chaz Beckwith and James Courtney will perform Texas Country, red-dirt music and radio hits from 9-11:30 p.m.
Noon — High Plains hamburger feed, 601 Main St.
2-8 p.m. — Craft, food vendors
5 p.m.-midnight — Carnival Midway rides
5 p.m.-midnight — Chamber Beer Garden
7-8:30 p.m. — Karaoke
9-11:30 p.m. — Chaz Beckwith, James Courtney

SATURDAY’S EVENTS
The Fort Larned 495 Foundation golf tournament starts at 7:30 a.m. at Larned Country Club. For information, call Jim Forrest, 620-285-5198.
Saturday’s entertainment starts with a gospel musical presentation by A.B. Stokes, Larned High’s head football and wrestling coach. The 8:30 p.m. feature presentation is by Jimmy Dee and the Destinations.

9 a.m.-2 p.m. — Larned Assembly of God activities, Pawnee County Courthouse.

The American Legion Riders will sponsor a Quad R Poker Run from 1-5 p.m. Registration is available at the Larned Chamber office.

Noon — Santa Fe Trail Auto Club Show, Doerr-Vernon Park
2-4 p.m. — Mid-America Credit Union, ice cream social, Broadway and 5th
