LARNED — Visitors and patrons to Fort Larned National Historic Site have the opportunity to showcase their talents during a photography contest known as Fort Larned Madness. The top 16 photos submitted will be selected by park staff and the official Fort Larned Madness bracket will be revealed Sunday, Feb. 28.

“We want to take people’s talent and creativity and show it off even more,” said Benjamin Long, park ranger and guide at Fort Larned. “If one thing is clear from the many photos the park gets tagged in on social media, it’s that folks have some great talent and creativity when it comes to photographing Fort Larned.”

Long said the photo contest is akin to the NCAA’s March Madness event. “This year, as our own parallel to the famous annual college basketball tournament, we are having a photo contest.”

The contest consists of three rules:

1) All photos must include the photographer’s first name and the state where he or she lives and must be emailed to fols_internet@nps.gov.

2) Photos may be an interior or exterior shot but must be taken on the property of Fort Larned National Historic Site.

3) Only one photo per person is allowed and must be submitted by Sunday, Feb. 21.

“After the top 16 photos are selected our fans will choose the best photo,” said Long. He added that two finalists will receive an autographed copy of Leo Oliva’s “Fort Larned: Guardian of the Santa Fe Trail” book and a Fort Larned T-shirt.
