OTIS — A pickup driven by a Bison teenager went off a Rush County Road at 9 p.m. Saturday after the driver swerved to avoid a deer.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports Benjamin M. Welsh, 18, of Bison was taken to Rush County Memorial Hospital with possible injuries. His 16-year-old male passenger was not injured.

According to the KHP report, Welsh was driving east on Ave. M. when a deer crossed the road, one mile south of Otis. After the driver swerved to avoid the deer, the 1992 Chevrolet S-10 crossed the center line and left the roadway. The pickup overturned at least one time and came to rest on its tops. Both of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
