The islands on Broadway Ave. are a little brighter now that redbud trees are in bloom. On Saturday, members of the Great Bend Noon Lions Club planted 15 more. Club representative Don Halbower said they plant new redbuds most years but skipped 2020 because of the pandemic. Lions have planted redbuds on Broadway for at least 65 years.

 This year, the trees were purchased by Central Kansas Orthopedic Group in memory of Richard Linenberger. Several of the club members and staff at Central Kansas Orthopedic Group posed for a photo Saturday before planting the trees.
