Action taken at a special BCC board meeting on Tuesday included:

• Accepting the only bid submitted to replace the ceiling over the swimming pool, for $53,320. Acoustic Contracting will do the work in August.
• Discussed personnel in executive session for 30 minutes.
• Extended BCC President Carl Heilman’s rolling three-year contract for another year, to 2018.
• Approved hiring: David Caudill II as assistant director of Human Resources on the Barton County campus; Michelle Merchant at a part-time customer service representative at Fort Leavenworth; and Phil Shoemaker as the head volleyball coach.

Applications sought to fill vacant trustee position:

Tuesday marked the first July 2015 meeting of the Barton Community College Board of Trustees, and that meant newly elected trustees signed the oath of office. Two of the three positions were filled by incumbent trustees Mike Minton and Mike Johnson. Bob Mead was also elected, but became ill and died a few weeks after the April election.
On Tuesday, trustees held their July study session – an “information only” meeting – but also scheduled a special business meeting, voting on several items. One was the time line for filling the vacancy on the board.
Trustees will choose the person who fills that position. Applications from interested parties will be accepted until 3 p.m. on July 31. For more information contact the Barton County Community College President’s Office by calling 620-792-9302.
Outgoing trustee Brett Middleton was unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting.
