A possible suicide attempt in rural Barton County Wednesday afternoon led law enforcement officials, along with emergency medical service crews, on a vehicle chase through the county ending up three quarters of a mile into southern Russell County, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
A passenger vehicle with a female driver and Arizona tags was parked west of Hoisington on K-4. The vehicle had a hose coming from the exhaust leading into the passenger compartment. A person driving by reported it and EMS crews responded and approached the vehicle. At this point, the driver fled the area leading law enforcement and EMS crews on a chase through the county.
The vehicle crashed just inside the Russell County line. The female driver was taken to the hospital to be evaluated and to be treated for possible injuries from the crash.
