Great Bend Public Library invited families to build haunted house displays using recycled materials.

There were 14 entries in this new event, said children’s librarian Amy Mayhill. Entries were judged Monday morning with the following results:

First place - Adriel Salinas

Second place - Lindsey Schwartz

Third place - Krystal Santy

Honorable Mention - Sebastian and Arianna Bott

Creepiest - Nickolus Patterson

Best Use of Recycled Material - Nicole Garrett

Most Creative - Dragon by Deacon Singleton

Most Colorful - Mili Orozco

Nicole Garrett works at the library and said she wasn’t expecting her entry to be in the running. “I was just making it for the fun of it,” she said. When asked what materials went into her project, she mentioned duct tape, a colorful cardboard box, leftover paint, tissue paper and newspapers.
