Everything is possible through God is the central theme for “Sky” Vacation Bible School at First Christian Church, 5230 Broadway Ave.
The church will hold its annual VBS from 5:45-8:45 p.m. Sunday, July 29 through Thursday, Aug. 2.
“Vacation Bible School is a week-long event where children from a variety of backgrounds can come together through hands-on activities to learn about God and his love,” said Kelli Frazier, Christian education director and VBS director. “It’s a safe place for children to come during the summer and experience a week specifically designed just for them.”
Every day at “Sky,” children 3-11 years old will experience hands-on Bible stories, group games, singing, dancing and live skits, and perform science experiments, all for free.
Each night will begin with a free dinner that parents are invited to attend with their children, followed by a sing and play worship time. From there, children are divided up in age appropriate groups for crafts, science experiments, interactive Bible stories, games and a visit to Chadder’s Theater.
Each night will end with a closing worship time that parents are invited to attend with their children.
Every year the church organizes a service project for the children and this year participants will help collect school supplies to be given to students and teachers at Park and Riley Elementary schools.
“In the past our largest support has been the school supply drives,” said Frazier. “This year we will be directly supporting the community in a way that may effect some of the students that come to VBS.”
Parents can pick up a list of needed items at registration or pick up a district list from Walmart. The community is welcome to contribute to the drive by bringing items to the church office through the month of August. Some of the most needed items include: notebook paper, crayons, markers and facial tissues.
Parents and family are also invited to come Sunday, August 5, at 9 a.m. for the VBS open house. They can tour the classrooms and sample a few activities from the week.
Following the open house, there will be a celebration worship service at 10:20 a.m. They will sing the bible school songs, view a slide show of fun highlights from the week, and hear some neat skits. For each family that attends the open House, a CD with pictures from the week will be available.
Registration is requested by Sunday, July 15, to allow for adequate number of supplies. Registrations received after the deadline will be accepted based on space availability.
For more information or to register, call the church office, 620-793-6603, or stop by the church between 8 a.m. and noon or 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
