Singing legend Frankie Valens and his wife Phyllis will appear at First Southern Baptist Church, 3301 19th St., Great Bend, at 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 4. There will be no charge for the program, but a freewill offering will be taken.
Frankie Valens started his music career as a nightclub singer in the late 1960s and 70s, and is best known for his signature song, “This Magic Moment.” He had the opportunity to sing on the same ticket with President Ronald Reagan and country singer Crystal Gale.
His wife Phyllis is an accomplished concert pianist and has written children’s music for Standard Publishing’s Vacation Bible School courses for over 20 years. She writes some of the music the couple sings and has presented full piano concerts herself.
Frankie and Phyllis traveled full-time in their gospel music ministry for seven years before coming off the road in 1997 to assist churches with their music programs.
They have resumed their concert ministry with family concerts that are often described as “unique” and “inspiring.” Their music varies from classical to contemporary, southern gospel to traditional. Solos, duets, concert piano numbers, hand-signing and skits are featured in this worship experience.
