Housing Opportunities Inc. of Great Bend had a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new apartments called Kensington Square Duplex Apartments on Wednesday.

Located in the 3000 block of N. Washington Street, one block south of Walnut Bowl, construction started last fall. The new property includes 16 two-bedroom apartments, each with a one-car attached garage and complete kitchen amenities.

“We are excited about the ribbon cutting ceremony today,” Housing Opportunities Inc. Executive Director Vicky Dayton said. “This type of house is vastly important to our community. We always have a waiting list for people waiting to get into our housing.”

Since 1996, Housing Opportunities Inc. has been providing safe, quality, affordable housing to people in the community. They currently manage single-family homes and duplex-style apartment units across Barton, Pawnee, and Rice counties.

This company started with three people in 1996 to pick up where the Barton County Housing left off. Dayton stated that more housing like this is needed in Great Bend.
