Monday’s Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education meeting will include information on trauma-informed classrooms at elementary schools. The board will meet at 5 p.m. Aug. 12 at the District Education Center, 201 South Patton Road.

The agenda includes Assistant Superintendent John Popp’s report on trauma-informed classrooms.

With an increase in the number of students with emotional support needs, each elementary school will have a trauma-sensitive room to support students in various stages of emotional need. From crisis to prevention, and focusing on prevention, these rooms will be staffed with personnel who will receive additional training to help teachers and students to be able to maintain a positive and effective classroom.

The board will also be asked to approve the release of bid information for new fleet vehicles. The vehicles under consideration will be used to accommodate travel for situations such as team travel (golf, swimming, etc.), teacher travel to out-of-town professional events, and more.

Other items on the agenda include a bond update, personnel and preparations for the first day of school on Aug. 19. The staff breakfast and Back-to-School Kick-off starts at 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the Great Bend High School Commons.
