SALINA — U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. on Monday announced a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Kansas was approved, triggering the release of Federal funding to assist communities and utility providers in recovering from the impacts of severe weather experienced July 14-21. In September, Senator Marshall sent a letter to President Biden asking him to grant the state’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration.
“When Mother Nature strikes, it’s important we access the resources available to help our communities rebuild and recover,” Senator Marshall said. “I will always advocate for assistance to our communities when they experience events outside of their control.”
The Major Disaster Declaration makes available public assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help impacted communities rebuild from severe weather events. All Kansas communities are also eligible to apply for funding through FEMA to help them better prepare for future natural disasters.
• The following counties are eligible for FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program: Allen, Barton, Clark, Comanche, Edwards, Finney, Ford, Greeley, Johnson, Kearny, Pawnee, Rawlins, Rice, Russell, Stafford, Thomas, Wallace, Wichita, Woodson, and Wyandotte.
