The Great Bend Recreation Commission is sponsoring its 23rd-annual youth summer theater production, “If The Shoe Fits,” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Great Bend High School auditorium.
The production is open to the public and admission is free. The doors to the Auditorium open at 6:30 p.m. for the public.
“A rollicking good time is in store for the cast and the audience alike,” Recreation Program Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick said. “The cast and crew have been working really hard and the show will be fun for everyone.”
The story centers around Prince Owen who is depressed. He’s ready to go to college and study computers (after all, the Kingdom of Kravitz is the only kingdom without a webpage), but tradition dictates that he attends a ball in honor of his graduation and choose a bride.
All the eligible girls in the kingdom will be there, including the Royal Fan Club. Will the prince marry Cinderella, who just wants to get away from her wicked stepmother’s house and study music?
Or will the evil Valda, with the help of the Python Gang, successfully kidnap the prince and replace him with a mechanical duplicate?
With a king who’s a stickler for tradition, a town crier who hates his job and a fairy godmother straight from the employment agency, this story is a modern twist of the classic tale, Fitzpatrick said.
The cast of 23 children, ages 6 – 16, has been practicing for five weeks under the direction of Paul Martin and assistants Tammy Bell and Amanda Schwager.
This year’s cast of performers are: Kambra Ball, Quintin Buzard, Daniel Hammeke, Nathan Hammeke, Quinton Heath, Jenna Higgins, Karson Higgins, Mya Higgins, Lilly Jones, Kennedy Kern, Vivian Klepper, Taylor Lindberg, Mylee Maddox, Kaylea McMullen, Alyvia Mingenback, Brooklyn Reynolds, Caden Rowan, Cayman Rowan, Penelope Rugan, Averi Stalcup, Kennedi Stalcup, Haley Troyer and Kiley Troyer. Many of the children have performed in previous productions for the Recreation Commission.
