The Central Kansas Chorale, which is sponsored by Barton Community College, is recruiting singers for the spring 2013 season. The CKC strives to provide challenging performances of quality literature for the enjoyment of the residents of the Central Kansas area.
Choir membership is open to all choral singers, high school age and above. Participants must have some choral singing background and be able to attend all rehearsals as the choral literature will be challenging and rehearsal time is relatively short.
The Central Kansas Chorale was founded in the spring of 2003. Located in Great Bend, it is a non-denominational mixed chorus. The CKC is dedicated to providing quality choral performance opportunities for interested residents of Barton and surrounding counties. Barton Community College Director of Choral Activities Vern Fryberger directs the chorus.
Spring of 2013 marks the sixth season for this ensemble. Previous seasons have included music from the Handel’s “Messiah,” the Vivaldi “Gloria,” Hayes “Te Deum,” the Rutter “Gloria” and a variety of shorter, traditional American works. This year the choir will feature music from Broadway musicals, including “Les Miserables,” “The Lion King” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
The choir will hold rehearsals on Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 2123 Forest St. in Great Bend.
The CKC is sponsored by Barton Community College. There is a $25 fee for each singer, which will help defray music and production expenses.
The first rehearsal will be held Monday evening, Jan. 21, with the final concert presented April 8. Interested singers should attend the first rehearsal on Jan. 21. For further information contact Vern Fryberger by phone at 620-792-9395 or by e-mail at frybergerv@bartonccc.edu .
