The Oklahoma man involved in a four-hour standoff with authorities last Friday with his children in the car will face two counts of aggravated child endangerment in Barton County, Barton County Attorney Doug Matthews said Wednesday.
The actual filing of those charges against Chris Solida, 43, will happen in the near future, he said. In the meantime, Solida remains in the Barton County Jail.
Solida, of Woodward County, Okla., allegedly shot his wife Brandy Solida in the head Friday afternoon, took his two kids, ages 9 months and 2 years, and fled to Kansas. Brandy Solida has since been released from a Oklahoma City hospital, but Solida has also been charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon, a felony in Oklahoma that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, said Jessica Brown with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Bond on the local charges is set at $50,000 and on the Oklahoma charge it is $500,000.
Matthews said once local charges are filed, a hearing date will be set and Barton County will proceed with its case. At that time, Solida will be asked if he wants to waive extradition back to Oklahoma or not.
Waiving of the extradition will pave the way for Oklahoma authorities to come and get him. Otherwise, there will have to be a hearing on that matter as well.
Whether Solida’s case in Barton County or in Oklahoma will be handled first is subject to discussion between officials from both jurisdictions, Matthews said.
Following the incident Friday night, the children were taken into protective custody. However, OSBI’s Brown said her agency was not involved with this aspect of the case.
That fell to the Oklahoma Department of Child Protective Services. However, the case worker in Woodward, Okla., assigned to the case said she could not release information about the status of the kids.
Solida held up in his car in the parking lot between Perkins Restaurant and the Best Western Angus Inn from 6:30-11 p.m. Friday. With about 40 officers from several agencies on hand, a multi-block area cordoned off and tactical teams at the ready, officers negotiated with the suspect.
He finally surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
