ST. JOHN — For the 10th year, the First United Methodist Church in St. John will serve a Christmas Day meal, open to everyone.
Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church, located just off of U.S. 281 at 807 E. 1st in St. John. The meal is absolutely free due to the generosity of church members. The menu includes turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh cranberries, hot vegetables, relish tray, rolls, dessert and drinks, all prepared fresh in the church kitchen.
People from various churches and communities pitch in to make everything from scratch, said church member Victor Martin.
“Maybe you just don’t want to eat alone or prepare a meal. Perhaps the idea of a good dinner and fellowship sounds appealing,” Martin said.
“You don’t need to live in St. John or Stafford County to attend. We had over 25 people from Barton County last year – over 130 total – and would love more.”
People who live in St. John can call the church office if they need a ride to the church or would like a meal delivered to their home. Call 620-549-3896 and leave a message.
Reservations are not required but those who would like to let the church know they are coming are asked to use the same telephone number.
