HOLYROOD — St. Paul’s Women’s Guild of Holyrood will hold their 99th Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 at St. Paul’s Church, 301 South Nassau, Holyrood.

There will be a bake sale table, which will include their famous halo noodles, and a craft table with many useful items. Sloppy joe’s, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw and pie will be served. At 1:30 p.m. there will be drawings for two quilts. One doesn’t have to be present to win.

Old records say that in 1903 the Women’s Guild, or the Ladies Mission Society, as it was called then, started the Bazaar. In 1928, the Holyrood Gazette newspaper mentioned that the annual Bazaar was being held at the City Hall. At that time, the ladies prepared the soup and noodles at home, then brought them to City Hall for the noon meal. Around 2 p.m. sandwiches, pie, coffee and rolls were for sale. There was a crafts table that had many tea towels and aprons for sale.

In the 1960s the Bazaar was held at the church. In the 1970s, the Women’s Guild purchased a pasta maker and noodle making began in earnest. The Guild missed one year because of COVID.

Today, Guild members get together and make many pounds of halo noodles to sell at the Bazaar.
