HOISINGTON — Finding your locker, learning your combination, and locating your classrooms was all a part of the back to school experience for Hoisington Middle School students. Monday evening, August 19, the middle school staff hosted an indoor picnic for students and their families. The picnic was a success. Hamburgers, hotdogs, casual conversation, and guided tours were all a part of this year’s Open House.

Tuesday was a half-day of classes with student dismissal at 11:20 a.m. Both familiar and new faces welcomed students their first day, including three new teachers to the building: Presley Smith (Language Arts), Augustus Anders (Science) and Melissa Schlegel (Special Education).

Following a successful first half-day of school, a surprise guest speaker greeted students on Wednesday morning. With humor and honesty Tré Giles, a motivational speaker from Hays, challenged the students to make a positive difference. Students were encouraged to use honesty, accountability, responsibility, respect, and leadership all HMS core values to make this the best school year yet.
