Tickets on sale for Hawaiian Luau

Kansas residents don’t have to travel to the South Pacific enjoy the aloha spirit. The American Legion Post 180 and Auxiliary in Great Bend will offer food, music and more at its 12th annual Hawaiian Luau Fundraiser, set for July 29 at the post home, 1011 Kansas Ave.

Advance tickets are on sale now for $20 and are available from Auxiliary members or at the bar (Monday through Friday after 6 p.m.) Tickets will cost $25 at the door. The proceeds will go to veterans’ organizations and to the Golden Plains Quilts of Valor.

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with a meal at 6. The menu includes smoked ribs, pulled pork and chicken prepared by Rick Munsch. Auxiliary members will provide scalloped potatoes, baked beans and other sides.

A silent auction will start when the doors open and there will be a live auction before the dance that starts at 8 and continues to 11 p.m. The band The Locals will perform.

Tickets are still on sale for the Golden Plains Quilts of Valor raffle. The prize is a patriotic-theme quilt made by Edie McQuade from Russell, and it will be on display at the luau. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing for the quilt will on Nov. 24 after the Quilts of Valor presentation; ticket holders do not have to be present to win.
