The time for light hearted comedy comes a little earlier this year, as the Great Bend Community Theatre moves its curtain time to 7:30 p.m. for “‘Til Beth Do Us Part,” opening Thursday at the Crest Theater.
“‘Til Beth Do Us Part” is a comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. It will be presented at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-14, at the Crest Theater, 1905 Lakin Ave. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Nov. 15.
Tickets are available beginning Monday, Nov. 9, by calling the Crest Theater Ticket Office, 620-792-4228. Ticket office hours are noon to 1 p.m., and tickets will be available at the door one hour prior to each performance. All reserved seats are $12.
This is the first production of the 2015-16 season, and season tickets are still available for $25.
GBCT Artistic Director KB Bell said curtain time for the group’s evening shows was 8 p.m. for many years. “We are trying something different this year,” he said, adding he hopes the audience likes the switch to 7:30.
“‘Til Beth Do Us Part” is directed by Susan Mills and assistant director Julie Shields. The cast is: Paige Lofland as Beth, Dyann Twitchell as Suzannah, Lauren Jones as Margo, Charlie Dixon as Gibby, Jordan Coleman as Hank and Marcheta Jacobson as Celia. Mills indicated this comedy from the writers of “The Dixie Swim Club” has a few surprises for the audience. She didn’t want to give too much away but shared the play’s synopsis:
‘Til Beth Do Us Part takes us on the journey of Suzannah, who hires Beth to help “whip her household into shape.” In no time at all, Beth exceeds her household duties and begins to interject into Suzannah’s career. Suzannah’s husband, Gibby, finds out he is the next to go. Gibby and friends set out to save his marriage and stop Beth at any cost.
