Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A Great Bend man was arrested Saturday after an officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle during a traffic stop, the Great Bend Police Department reports. Officers found 84 grams of suspected marijuana and two handguns inside the vehicle.

Elijah Cheney was arrested and booked into the Barton County Detention Center on charges of unlawful distribution, possession of marijuana, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, window tint, and two counts of criminal use of a weapon. Bond was set at $50,000.

According to the GBPD, an officer made the traffic stop around 3:20 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of 29th Street. Cheney was the only person inside the vehicle.
