Traffic stop turns up drugs, gun

Great Bend Police Officer Joel Hamlin initiated a traffic stop at 12:45 a.m. on Thursday in the 1000 block of Heizer St. With the help of GBPD K-9 Officer Shane Becker and dog Laser, the arrest of Eugene Black of Great Bend was made, Chief of Police David Bailey said.
According to reports, Officer Hamlin was notified that Black was wanted on numerous arrest warrants. Officer Becker responded to the scene with Laser. The K-9 then indicated the scent of drugs on the vehicle, which was searched.
Illegal drugs and weapons were located and seized, according to a GBPD news release.
Black was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine, all within 1,000 feet of Riley Elementary School, and illegal possession of a firearm. He was booked and confined in the Barton County Detention Center in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
