Stafford does a wonderful event for its kids every Halloween, Trunk or Treat! The street is closed between the Stafford County Hospital and The Well, a local community gathering space alongside the hospital at 502 S. Buckeye St. The area is filled with decorated vehicles and people holding buckets of goodies. Larabee Library handed out balloons and bookmarks.

I was impressed with the politeness the kids showed and how much fun it was to see all the people. Many kids not only had a mom or dad with them but also grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. Free hot dogs, treats, and crafts were provided by the Hospital and the Well. Great job Stafford!

I just talked with Marcia Bauerle about the workshop she is leading on Nov. 17. It will be an exquisite painted masterpiece when you are done. Unlike anything you have done before. Call for reservations.

We are still looking for middle-school age kids that would like to join a book club. We can flex with days and times to meet your schedule. Just stop by the library and I can loan you a book to read at home then we can meet for discussion and eventually the movie. “The One and Only Ivan” is the book we are starting with. It is a quick and funny read.

Come join us for an afternoon of folding paper and adding pretties to make wonderful Christmas ornaments! Join us Nov. 6 or 13. Call ahead for class reservation and so Nancy can gather supplies.

Recently Read met Oct. 27 and discussed many authors and books:

  • “Finding Ashley” by Danielle Steel
  • “Home Front” by Kristin Hannah
  • “O Pioneers!” by Willa Cather
  • “Lovers in Auschwitz” by Keren Blankfeld

By the time this is published, people will be finishing up voting. I hope you all ate a nice meal at the Stafford Methodist Church and then went over and cast an educated vote. Let’s hope those that are voted in will be as honest and wise as George Washington and Abe Lincoln. Everyone in politics needs to strive to be great for our country. The good news? No more political ads! It’s too bad all that money used for political negativity isn’t used to curb the price of living. Maybe if the right people were voted in it will make a difference.
