Work is scheduled to start soon on replacing a U.S. 281 bridge near Great Bend. The bridge, over a marsh, is about 2.5 miles north of town.

The work is tentatively set to begin around Monday, June 1. The project is expected to be completed around late September, depending on the weather.

Motorists approaching the work site should be prepared to slow down and stop and expect delays. Traffic will be limited to one lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals during the project. The speed limit in the work zone will be 35 mph.

The Kansas Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.

The primary contractor for the $584,273 project is L&M Contractors Inc., of Great Bend.
