The Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education met behind closed doors for more than two hours Monday evening at the District Education Center. A special meeting was announced Monday morning, set for 7:30 p.m. The board quickly moved into executive session for discussion of personnel.
Kansas Association of School Boards Attorney Lori Church was with the board until 8:27 p.m. Superintendent Brad Reed did not attend the meeting, but Church exited the meeting and met with Reed in his office, then returned to the board room to rejoin the meeting at 8:53 p.m.
Reed then left.
The executive session was first set to end at 9 p.m., but was extended until 9:49 p.m. with no action taken at the conclusion of the meeting.
Assistant Superintendent Kris Thexton said today’s school board meeting, which was scheduled for noon on Dec. 6 so the board could tour the bus barn, has been canceled.
Kansas law allows elected boards to hold executive sessions, which are closed to the public, for specific reasons. Board members said the reason this discussion needed to be done in executive session was to protect the privacy interests of the persons to be discussed.
