USD 428 school officials would like to remind the community that summer months still require caution and awareness at school zones and crosswalks.

In the month of June, school buildings are open for summer school each weekday. USD 428’s summer meal program is also operating from 11am – 12:30 p.m. at all elementary buildings and the Central Kitchen from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

“On foot, by bicycle, or car, our buildings are welcoming students and families each morning as well as over the lunch hour,” said USD 428’s Public Information Director Andrea Bauer. “We want to reminder drivers to slow down, stay alert, and take extra precautions to ensure our kids get to school and return home safely.”

School zones are clearly marked with signs indicating the 20 mph speed limit. Additionally, drivers must stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk and wait until all pedestrians are completely clear of the crosswalk and/or for the light to turn green before proceeding.
