The juvenile driver of a vehicle stolen in Rush County was taken into custody early Wednesday and more charges are expected for subjects involved in the theft, reported Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark Friday morning.
Haulmark noted that on Wednesday at approximately 12:15 a.m., Great Bend Police Department officers were dispatched to the parking lot of a business in the 1100 block of 10th Street in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Officers noted upon arrival an unoccupied vehicle was observed in the parking lot. Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in Rush County and had not yet been reported. FLOCK camera imagery was examined to determine when the vehicle entered town. Officers were also able to gather possible suspect descriptions and began searching the area. At approximately 2:45 a.m. a deputy from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office located three subjects in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street who matched the descriptions.
After interviewing the subjects, it was determined that they were involved in the theft of the vehicle from Rush County. The 17-year-old male driver of the vehicle was also reported as a runaway from Pottawatomie County. The juvenile was placed under arrest and transported to juvenile intake.
Haulmark noted that further charges are expected for all subjects involved in the vehicle theft.
