Fatal crash on icy bridge reported in Stafford Co.

A fatality crash on U.S. 281 Thursday in Stafford County started after a motorist lost control of a vehicle on an icy bridge and collided with another vehicle, the Kansas Highway Patrol reports. The crash occurred at 7:25 a.m., 3 miles north of St. John.

Itzel Guillen, 19, of St. John, was traveling north in a 2014 GMC Sierra when it went left of center on the bridge and collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Claudio Sanchez Molina, 52, of Great Bend.

Mr. Molina was pronounced dead at the scene and his two passengers, also from Great Bend, sustained what were believed to be serious injuries. Carlos P. Castro, 25, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and Jose S. Garcia-Hernandez, 41, was taken to The University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend campus. None of the occupants of the Silverado was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Guillen also sustained what was believed to be a serious injury and was taken to the Great Bend hospital. She had been wearing a seat belt.
