Kansas Highway Patrol reports a fatal highway crash occurred around 9:32 a.m. Wednesday at the K-156 and K-140 Junction, 1.5 miles south of Ellsworth.
Donald J. Svita, 70, from Pueblo, Colorado, was driving an eastbound 2004 Toyota Highlander on K-140 and failed to stop at the stop sign. The Toyota struck a southbound 2006 Peterbilt semitrailer driven by Luke W. Johnson, 39, of Randolph. Neither driver was wearing a safety restraint.
Svita was taken to Ellsworth Medical Center and died as a result of the crash. Johnson reported being in pain and was taken to the medical center for his possible injury.
