One motorist was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and her 17-year-old passenger died at the scene Saturday as the result of a one-vehicle crash in Pawnee County.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2004 GMC Envoy driven by Zona Rhoades, 25, of Kinsley was southbound on 100 Ave. about 1.5 miles north of U.S. 56 at 12:25 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle and it went into the east ditch. The Envoy rolled approximately three times, landing on its wheels.
Rhoades was taken to the hospital with what appeared to be serious injuries.
A passenger, Drew Edward Craghead from Jetmore, was taken to Beckwith Mortuary.
KHP reports they were not wearing seat belts.
Another area crash report
The Highway Patrol also responded to a minor injury crash in Ellsworth County on Friday, June 30. A 2002 Freightliner driven by Robert R. Denton, 53, of Lyons was headed east on Avenue V in Lorraine, four miles north of K-4, at 5:45 p.m. and failed to yield to southbound traffic. The truck hit a 2020 Honda Pilot driven by Melissa J. Rolfs, 38, of Lorraine. Denton had no apparent injury; Rolfs had reported being in pain and was taken to the Ellsworth County Medical Center for possible injury.
Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
