HOISINGTON — A report of an attempted kidnapping Wednesday evening in Hoisington turned out to be unfounded, the Hoisington Police Department announced Friday morning.

The HPD released the following statement: “On Feb. 1st, 2023, an attempted kidnapping was reported to the Hoisington Police Department. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the information was falsely reported and the case is concluded. We would like to thank the public for all the tips and information regarding this case.”

Hoisington Police Chief Kenton Doze said Friday morning that charges are pending against the juvenile making the report. “It probably won’t be any time soon,” he said. “What we will do is finish our reports and forward them to the Barton County Attorney’s office. It will then be up to them.”

On Thursday morning, the HPD had asked the public for information related to the alleged crime. According to information initially supplied by the HPD, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a juvenile was approached by at least subjects in a white van while he was walking in the 800 block of Second Street. A male subject attempted to force the victim into the vehicle, but the victim was able to break free and run.
