Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made three ambulance runs last Wednesday, 10 Thursday, 11 Friday, 10 Saturday, four Sunday and six Monday

On Saturday they performed a carbon monoxide check and responded to one unauthorized burn.

On Monday they joined the Pawnee Rock Fire Department with a mutual aid response to a field fire. CRP grass was on fire at SW 90 Ave. and SW 60 Road, around 5:49 p.m.

 

Great Bend Police Reports

Aug. 9

A subject reported being battered by Beau Cavender at 5912 Eisenhower Ave., Apt. A. Cavender was booked into jail in lieu of bond.

Michelle Bitter was backing out of her drive at 1917 Jackson and struck a vehicle belong to Melissa Crawford.

Sharon L. Brack was turning east at 3413 10th Street and struck a car driven by Mollie M. Webber who was making a right turn on 10th.

A car was keyed in the Walmart parking lot.

Aug. 10

Christopher Herrman was southbound on McKinley and struck a car belonging to Nancy Mater that was stopped in traffic.

Anselmo Calzada was southbound on main and struck a city vehicle that was eastbound on 7th Street.

A notice to appear was served on Devin Gross for alleged theft at Walmart.

A vehicle driven by Anselmo Calzada was southbound on Main at 11:39 a.m. and struck a City of Great Bend vehicle driven by Daniel Slack, who was eastbound on Seventh St. Kansas Highway Patrol worked the accident due to a city vehicle being involved.

A vehicle driven by Richard Glodowski was changing lanes and struck a vehicle driven by Jessis Brown on Main Street.

Tires were cut on a vehicle at 619 Main.

 

Barton County Sheriff’s Office

Aug. 9 reports

There were reports of 15 cattle in the roadway on SE 50 Road, a calf in the ditch at SE 50 Road and a calf walking in a yard at 603 Cheyenne View Drive.

A dog was reportedly attacked by a pitbull on Karen Street.

An unknown person took a yellow agriculture plow from a residence on NW 20 Ave.

Aug. 10 reports

A house at 1964 NW 70 Ave. was hit by lightning and caught on fire around 4:43 a.m. The kitchen was fully engulfed but everyone got out of the residence safely. Great Bend and Hoisington fire departments responded.

A motorist reported a small metal pipe came off a trailer of another truck and hit his hood on K-96 at 6:12 p.m., then drove off.

A vehicle that had rolled was discovered in a ditch on NW 60 Ave. and West Barton County Road at 5:20 p.m. The driver, Ray Witham from Hudson, was later located and said the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m.

Kansas Highway Patrol

A 2004 Saturn driven by Kasey R. Davis, 16, of Russell was eastbound on Interstate 70, 9.8 miles east of Russell, at 8:50 a.m. on Aug. 10, when the driver drove onto the rumble stripe, over-corrected. The car slid into the south ditch and rolled one and one-quarter times. Davis was taken to Russell Regional Hospital with possible injuries.
