Great Bend Fire Department
Firefighters made three ambulance calls Tuesday.
At 12:08 p.m., units responded to a fence and tree on fire next to a shed at 1208 Hubbard St. The fire was quickly extinguished before it spread to the shed. The fire appeared to have started in a dog kennel where a heat lamp was being used; it started in a plastic dog box then spread to a wooden privacy fence.
At 1:04 p.m. units responded to 1901 Main to the report of smoke in the building at That Critter Place. They found a light haze inside but were unable to locate any fire. It was determined that the haze and hot smell was coming from the furnace, and that furnace service was needed.
At 8:19 p.m. units responded 1500 Kansas for a smoke smell at the JC Penny store. Staff escorted firefighters to a storage area where they smelled smoke. After checking the building it was determined that the smell was coming from outside where someone had lit their fire place earlier.

Barton County Sheriff
A vehicle pulled in front of another vehicle at 4:28 p.m. Tuesday on NE K-156 and East U.S. 56, throwing rocks onto the windshield and causing it to crack. The rock-throwing vehicle continued westbound into Great Bend and was stopped at 10th and Main.
A vehicle hit a deer around 6:26 p.m. between Hoisington and Great Bend on U.S. 281.

Great Bend Police
An unknown motorist struck a parked vehicle at 2617 17th St., it was reported Tuesday. There was also a hit-and-run in the afternoon at Dillons, 4107 10th St.
Someone damaged a vehicle at 2617 17th St. Another vehicle was damaged at 800 Morton St.
An individual’s medication was reportedly stolen from 2907 24th St.
