Great Bend Fire/EMS

Emergency Medical Service made five ambulance runs Friday, Feb. 24, eight Saturday and eight Sunday.

Firefighters were called twice on Friday to check on a controlled burn in the 100 block of SW 50 Road. They also responded to a possible fire report at 807 Main at 2:56 a.m. Friday but it was only smoke from a chimney.

On Saturday, there was a false fire alarm at 2:06 p.m. caused by a system malfunction.

Firefighters were called to the field of the previous controlled burn at 11:43 a.m. Saturday when the fire rekindled at SW 50 Road and SW 20 Ave. and caught a ditch on fire.

At 12:26 p.m., a previously controlled burn spread to some bales and got into a shelter belt at SE 20 Ave. and SE 60 Road.

On Sunday there was one false alarm. Then, at 3 p.m., the fire department received a report of a small gas spill at Great Bend Co-op -Cenex, 207 Main Street. It was only three to five gallons and the company cleaned up the spill without assistance.

At 5:15 p.m. Sunday, the previous shelter belt fire at SE 20 Road and SE 60 Ave. rekindled and firefighters cleaned up hot spots.


Great Bend Police

Theft of a bike was reported Friday at 1206 Hubbard St.

An injury crash was reported at 12:07 p.m. in the 3200 block of Broadway.

A burglary was reported at 10:53 p.m. Friday at Great Bend Ampride, 2300 10th St.

A non-injury crash was reported at 7:51 a.m. Saturday at 3102 Forest Ave.

A burglary was reported at Discount Laundry, 2201 10th St., after someone broke into the building and caused damage inside.

A fraud case was reported at 2530 Lakin Ave.

A burglary at 3812 Forest Ave. was reported Sunday after items were taken from a storage shed.

A non-injury crash was reported at 4:42 p.m. and 2nd and Elm. 


Barton County Sheriff

A fraud case was reported Friday at 421 Wilkins St., Heizer.

A fight was reported at 11:54 p.m. Friday at Railroad Ave. and South Green St. in Hoisington.

A non-injury crash was reported at 9:57 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East K-4, Great Bend.

A fire was reported at 2:49 p.m. at NW 90 Ave. and NW 170 Road, Hoisington.

A non-injury crash was reported at 2:02 p.m. Sunday at the Claflin Fire Department, 309 West Front St.

An injury crash was reported at 7:07 p.m. in the 700 block of West U.S. 56, Great Bend.
