Three arrested on drug, traffic charges after Saturday traffic stop

Three men were arrested on multiple drug and traffic offenses following the alleged detection of illegal narcotics during a traffic stop Saturday evening.

According to the Great Bend Police Department, at approximately 5:39 p.m. Saturday, a GBPD officer conducted a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Washington St. for an equipment violation on a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. GBPD K-9 Menta was deployed and conducted a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle, during which the dog indicated the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle. Officers then searched of the car and reportedly located a substantial amount of controlled substances including over 30 individual packages of marijuana, wax, edibles and drug paraphernalia.  

Eduardo Jimenez-Funes, 25; Angel Romero, 22; and Jason Kurtz, 38 were arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail. Charges for all three include possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school (Jefferson Elementary School), possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp, with Kurtz additionally being charged with a vehicle window tint violation. Bond for each was set at $300,000.
